Oklahoma defensive back Trystan Haynes (14) tackles Texas quarterback Arch Manning (16)

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL— College football’s sixth week delivered five notable upsets Saturday, October 10, headlined by Oklahoma’s stunning victory over No. 1 Texas and Kentucky’s overtime takedown of Lane Kiffin’s LSU Tigers.

Unranked Oklahoma beat Texas 27–24 on Tate Sandell’s 47-yard field goal as time expired. Arch Manning finished with 260 passing yards and three touchdowns, but two fourth-quarter interceptions overshadowed those numbers and proved decisive.

The first became Peyton Bowen’s 42-yard touchdown return, giving Oklahoma its first lead. The second handed the Sooners possession with 19 seconds remaining, setting up the winning kick. Texas had led 17–7 at halftime but repeatedly stalled after the break. Manning acknowledged his responsibility afterward, saying the Longhorns needed better ball security, particularly from him. His performance illustrated the difference between producing impressive statistics and protecting a game when pressure intensifies.

In Lexington, Kentucky defeated No. 10 LSU 35–34 when quarterback Kenny Minchey converted a two-point attempt in overtime. The Tigers fell to 4–2, with their postseason ambitions taking another hit.

Kiffin called the outcome “very disappointing” but said he would not overreact. He pointed to missed opportunities across all three phases and acknowledged reconsidering his decision to punt on fourth-and-one late in regulation. Kentucky subsequently drove for the tying field goal.

Elsewhere, No. 21 UCLA edged No. 13 Oregon 17–15, South Carolina overwhelmed No. 16 Florida 38–19, and North Carolina beat No. 25 Pittsburgh 21–17.

Together, Saturday’s results reinforced a familiar lesson: rankings and reputations offer little protection when execution breaks down and opponents seize their opportunities in decisive moments.
