NEGRO DIGEST™ is committed to publishing accurate, independent and clearly presented journalism for our readers. Established in 1942, the publication recognizes that credibility depends not only on what we publish, but on how information is gathered, verified and presented.
Accuracy and Verification
We make reasonable efforts to verify factual information before publication. Writers and editors are expected to distinguish confirmed facts from allegations, estimates, commentary and speculation.
Whenever practical, reporting should rely on primary sources, including official records, court documents, government data, direct statements, interviews, original research and other authoritative materials.
Secondary reporting may be used when appropriate, particularly for developing stories, but significant factual claims should be independently corroborated whenever possible.
Sources and Attribution
NEGRO DIGEST™ identifies the sources of information so readers can evaluate the basis of our reporting.
Information obtained from another publication, journalist, study, report, organization or other external source should be appropriately attributed. Digital articles should link to original or authoritative source material when practical.
Direct quotations must accurately represent what a source said and should not be altered in a manner that changes their meaning.
Anonymous Sources
NEGRO DIGEST™ generally prefers sources who can be identified.
Anonymous or confidential sources may be used when the information has legitimate public or editorial value and identifying the source could reasonably expose that person to retaliation, professional consequences, legal risk or other harm.
Information from anonymous sources should be independently corroborated whenever practical.
News, Analysis and Opinion
Readers should be able to distinguish factual reporting from commentary.
News articles are intended primarily to report and contextualize facts. Analysis may interpret events or examine their significance while remaining grounded in verifiable information.
Opinion, commentary and editorial material may express a particular viewpoint and should be identified or presented in a manner that makes its nature clear to readers.
Corrections
Accuracy takes precedence over preserving the original wording of an article. When NEGRO DIGEST™ determines that published material contains a substantive factual error, we will correct it.
Significant corrections should be disclosed to readers when appropriate.
Artificial Intelligence
NEGRO DIGEST™ may use artificial-intelligence tools as part of research, transcription, editing, production, data analysis, image creation or other publishing workflows.
AI-generated information is not automatically treated as fact. Material containing factual claims remains subject to editorial review and verification before publication.
We do not knowingly use artificial intelligence to fabricate quotations, sources, documents or factual events and present them as authentic journalism.
When synthetic or AI-generated imagery could reasonably be mistaken for documentary photography of an actual event, person or circumstance, it should be identified as an illustration or AI-generated visual when appropriate.
Photography, Video and Visual Media
Photographs and videos used as documentary evidence should accurately represent the subjects and events they purport to depict.
Routine adjustments for presentation—including cropping, resizing, exposure or color correction—should not materially alter the journalistic meaning of an image.
Illustrations, composites, promotional imagery and AI-generated visuals may be used for editorial or creative purposes but should not be represented as documentary evidence when they are not.
Independence
Editorial decisions are made according to the interests of NEGRO DIGEST™ and its readers.
Advertising, sponsorships, affiliate relationships and commercial partnerships should not determine the factual conclusions of editorial coverage. Sponsored or paid material should be distinguishable from independent editorial content.
Our Standard
NEGRO DIGEST™ does not claim that journalism is infallible. Our standard is that information should be gathered responsibly, presented accurately, attributed appropriately and corrected when we get something wrong.
