NEW YORK, NY —Take-Two Interactive has lost nearly $3 billion in market value following a wave of alleged Grand Theft Auto VI leaks, underscoring just how much investor confidence is tied to Rockstar Games’ blockbuster franchise.

According to Insider Gaming, Take-Two shares were trading at $232.84, down from $248.13 on August 18, before the latest leaks began circulating. The $15.29-per-share decline erased approximately $2.83 billion from the company's market capitalization in less than two days, although Take-Two remained valued at more than $43 billion.

The leaked material reportedly includes alleged GTA 6 gameplay footage and information about the game's map, mechanics and other features. Insider Gaming cautioned that the leaks cannot definitively be identified as the sole cause of the stock decline, since share prices fluctuate for numerous reasons.

The reaction nevertheless demonstrates the extraordinary financial expectations surrounding GTA 6, which is scheduled for November 19, 2026.

With an estimated $14-$15 billion in sales, Grand Theft Auto is one of the most profitable game series ever, sitting behind Call of Duty ($35–$37+ billion) and FIFA / EA Sports FC ($15–$20+ billion).

Rockstar (the studio behind GTA) doesn't release the game every year. Instead, GTA V became an unprecedented long-term blockbuster while GTA Online extended its commercial life through a persistent multiplayer economy. Now that success has created another problem: expectations for Grand Theft Auto VI are almost impossibly high after the extraordinary wait for a new mainline entry.
