WASHINGTON, D.C. — The 10th Annual Black Reel TV Awards announced this year’s winners, celebrating a landmark season of Black excellence in television across comedy, drama, limited series, documentaries, variety programming, music, writing, directing and technical achievement.
Netflix’s His & Hers and Hulu’s Paradise emerged as the evening’s top winners with four awards each. His & Hers captured Outstanding TV Movie or Limited Series, Outstanding Lead Performance in a TV Movie or Limited Series for Tessa Thompson, Outstanding Supporting Performance in a TV Movie or Limited Series for Crystal Fox, and Outstanding Writing in a TV Movie or Limited Series for Tori Sampson. Paradise earned Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Lead Performance in a Drama Series for Sterling K. Brown, Outstanding Directing in a Drama Series for Hanelle M. Culpepper, and Outstanding Writing in a Drama Series for Jason Wilborn.
Other multiple winners included Abbott Elementary, Euphoria, Katrina: Come Hell and High Water and Wonder Man, each earning two awards. Netflix led all platforms with nine wins, followed by Disney+ and Hulu with five apiece, HBO with three, and ABC with two.
“As we mark a decade of celebrating Black television excellence, this year’s winners speak to the creative force, cultural influence and artistic range that Black storytellers continue to bring to the screen,” said Tim Gordon, founder of the Black Reel Awards. “From breakthrough performances to landmark achievements behind the camera, the 10th Annual Black Reel TV Awards honor the visionaries shaping the future of television.”
Factoids from the 10th Annual Black Reel TV Awards:
Abbott Elementary holds the record for the most wins in Bolts TV history with 22 wins.
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II became the first man to win Outstanding Lead Performance in a Comedy Series and the first winner in the category for a Marvel series.
The directing categories made history this year, with women winning across all directing fields.
His & Hers became Netflix’s fourth winner in the Outstanding TV Movie or Limited Series category.
Sterling K. Brown and Nicole Beharie became the first performers to win multiple times in the Outstanding Lead and Supporting Performance in a Drama Series categories.
The Black Reel TV Awards, also known as the Bolts, recognize excellence in Black television and honor artists, craftspeople and storytellers whose work reflects the depth and diversity of the television landscape.
