Fake 49ers Player Arrested for Swindling 26 Women Out of $1.3 Million

BOISE, ID —Federal authorities have charged two men in an elaborate romance and investment scheme that allegedly defrauded at least 26 women of more than $1.3 million across four states.
Prosecutors say Daejon Labrayae Love, 35, posed as a San Francisco 49ers player and wealthy investor while meeting women through dating apps and developing romantic relationships with them. Love allegedly reinforced the deception by wearing 49ers apparel, displaying a lavish lifestyle on social media and using fake financial accounts to create the appearance of substantial wealth. The NFL and 49ers confirmed he never played for the team.
His alleged accomplice, Taylor Jamie Chan, 18, posed as Love’s financial adviser and participated in video calls where victims were shown fabricated investment gains. Some women were allegedly encouraged to take out personal loans to invest. None received the promised returns, prosecutors say.
The alleged scheme operated from 2022 until their Aug. 24 arrests in Boise, Idaho, and targeted women in California, Oregon, Washington and Idaho. The FBI believes additional victims may exist. Both men face federal wire fraud and conspiracy charges and are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
