Mayweather retired in 2017 with a 50-0 record and $1 billion in career earnings.
MANHATTAN, NY — Undefeated 48-year-old former boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. has announced that he will come out of retirement and return to professional boxing after his April 26 spring exhibition match against former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson.
As of early 2026, reports indicate that Mayweather faces significant financial pressure, including alleged debts, foreclosure risks, and lawsuits. Despite his "Money" image and reported $1.2 billion career earnings, legal documents allege he holds $54 million in debt, has unpaid taxes, and is using his assets as collateral.
Mayweather filed a $100 million defamation lawsuit against Business Insider and reporter Daniel Geiger in May 2025 alleging that a report questioning his acquisition of a 62-building Manhattan real estate portfolio was defamatory and motivated by racial bias. Mayweather claims the report falsely stated there was no evidence of the sale, which he maintains is untrue.
In February 2026, Mayweather filed a lawsuit in California against Showtime Networks and former executive Stephen Espinoza, alleging they assisted his former manager, Al Haymon, in a scheme that defrauded him of at least $340 million. The suit claims Haymon, who is not named as a defendant, diverted revenue into secret accounts via “financial manipulation”.
